F is for Flakes is a reflection on self isolation in uncertain times. The compilation was initiated out of a phone conversation between Brendon Anderegg and Warren Ng in the early days of social distancing in New York. As a way to process the situation they decided to exchange spontaneous tracks both centered around the note F as a unifying element. After finding inspiration in the initial results it seemed natural to enlist a group of friends to also create their own interpretations and a compilation was born. F is For Flakes uses F as an anchor and consistent thread to create continuity over the course of the record. From "Lament No. 3” an introspective composition combining Wurlitzer, trumpet, organ and Clavinet by Cory Gray, to Amy Lemaire’s recordings of 3D Printer and flute, to Steven Reker’s intimate vocal and synth piece "Green Moon," F is for Flakes is a diverse document of individual expression and immediacy created during this precarious moment.
All of the proceeds for the album will be going to the National Domestic Workers Alliance, who state that “For many in-home care workers, nannies, and house cleaners the threat from Coronavirus is especially severe. Without access to health care, paid sick leave, or job security, they are being forced to navigate this crisis alone — without a safety net. The money you donate to the Coronavirus Care Fund will provide immediate financial support for domestic workers, and enable them to stay home and healthy — protecting themselves, their families and their communities while slowing the spread of the Coronavirus.”
The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the nation’s leading voice for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States.
Founded in 2007, NDWA works for respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections for domestic workers, the majority of whom are immigrants and women of color.
NDWA is powered by over 60 affiliate organizations and local chapters and by thousands of members. Domestic workers in all 50 states can join NDWA and gain access to member benefits, connection with other workers, and opportunities to get involved in the domestic worker movement.
NDWA is winning improved working conditions while building a powerful movement rooted in the rights and dignity of domestic workers, immigrants, women, and their families.
